Background

A foam producer for the automotive, commercial, military and recreational vehicle industries made the decision to upgrade their computing equipment in plant locations across North America. 

Challenge

Avoid costly rebuilds and retrofits of existing Quantum hardware and find an affordable and logistically feasible migration path.

Solution

Implemented a staged approach to the hardware upgrade by migrating the Quantum CPU to a Schneider Modicon M580 and using a variety of hardware solutions to connect seamlessly to existing input/output architectures. Our team was able to replace the CPU's while maintaining legacy components and networks in place.

Engineering and maintenance teams are empowered to stage hardware upgrades by shifting to faster, more modern CPU’s initially (benefiting from their functional advantages sooner) and leaving legacy hardware updates to a secondary time frame.
